Using the Food Pyramid
One way to insure that you are eating healthy is to follow the food pyramid.
The United States Department of Agriculture developed this handy tool to help us insure that we are getting the right amounts of each type of food in our daily meals. The pyramid looks like this.
Are you eating enough vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats such as olive oil and canola oil?
You should make sure that you eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables everyday and that you eat as many different colors as possible. Eating all of the different colors will help insure that you are getting all of the vitamins and minerals that your body needs.
Whole grains are low in carbohydrates but are good for digestion and healthy fats will not clog your arteries leading to heart disease and other health problems.
When asking yourself if you are eating right? You need to recognize that there are bad foods or foods that can be bad if not eaten in moderation.
Some of these foods are red meat, refined grains and potatoes or sugary drinks. Red meat is high in fat try fish instead and refined grains are full of carbohydrates so you should switch to brown rice and as an alternative to all of those sugary sodas and juices try a nice cold glass of water.
